It began in a small alley by Kyung Hee University

Hanbang Life Lab grew out of the herbal pharmacy that Kim Hyun-su and Choi Eun-suk ran in an alley near Hoegi Station, just outside Kyung Hee University. Both graduated in herbal pharmacy from the university. Years of daily consultations became the brand.

Two meanings in the name BARAGI

In Korean, baragi means both a wish for something and a vessel that holds materials. The brand name carries both: a vessel that holds the wish for someone's health. The research began with a simple question: why not make small everyday habits easier to keep with familiar herbal materials?

The founders examining freshly harvested bellflower root in the field

Bellflower candy designed by herbal pharmacists

The bellflower candy was formulated by herbal pharmacists who had handled bellflower root in the pharmacy for years. Korean bellflower concentrate is combined with Korean pear, omija (schisandra) and quince concentrates, liquorice and propolis, so a gentle sweetness follows the bitter note. See the product label for the full ingredient list and origins.

Gift set of bellflower, mugwort and ssanghwa candy

Three candies, and traditional preparations

The candy line has three flavours: bellflower, mugwort and ssanghwa. Mugwort candy pairs Korean mugwort extract with propolis; ssanghwa candy carries a concentrate of peony, cnidium, angelica, astragalus and rehmannia. Alongside the candies, the range extends to traditional preparations such as Gyeong&Ok and ssanghwa, bellflower syrup and tea.

From the Cheongdam flagship, BARAGI now runs counters in department stores including Lotte Gangnam, Dongtan, Cheongnyangni and Pyeongchon, and Hyundai Jungdong and Cheonho. A herbal pharmacy on a department store floor is still rare in Korea. In store, the team consults and helps with seasonal gifts.

What is Hanbang

Hanbang is Korea’s herbal tradition. BARAGI draws on its materials and formulation practices to develop candy, tea and traditional preparations.

Fourteen hours behind each batch

Bellflower candy starts with six hours of cold steeping and eight hours of extraction. Cane sugar and Korean grain syrup are used in production at Hanyang Confectionery’s HACCP-certified facility.
